It is indeed a pleasure to serve God and the congregation of Dawsey UMC as supply pastor while I pursue my ministerial course of study. I know I am where I am supposed to be, doing what I am supposed to be doing at this time in my life.
I am originally from Florence, South Carolina, and am a graduate of West (Florence) High, Francis Marion University and Jacksonville State University. I am married to Dianne Poston Owens, and we live in the Hannah Community of Florence County. We have two children, each married, and three grandchildren.
From there, since 1998, when we moved back into the area, we have served God in various local congregations. I am twice retired and know that for this final phase of my life, ministry is my vocation. My hobbies include bee keeping and being a U.S. Revolutionary War/Colonial reenactor and living history presenter. I am retired from the U.S. Army and from Florence County, where I served as the county’s Emergency Management Director for 22 years.
During my journey of work and service I also taught different subjects at various times to many groups of people and students. I have served as adjunct faculty at Columbia College and was an Assistant Professor of Military Science at FMU, USC, and Morris College.
Come join us at Dawsey UMC where we seek to learn about God, grow in God’s grace and serve others according to the scriptures.
Nancy has been the Music Director at Dawsey since 2011. Prior to coming to Dawsey she was the pianist at Calvary Baptist in Florence for fifteen years and at two churches in Georgia for twelve years.
She enjoys planning music for the worship services including hymns, both old and new, praise and worship songs, and some contemporary music.
She is a retired administrator from Florence District One, and in addition to her work at Dawsey, stays very busy directing the handbell choir at Calvary, doing volunteer work in the community, and spending time with her husband, two daughters, and four grandchildren.
